4WD 2 hour Scenic Nature Tour

From Cruise Port:    Akaroa-Christchurch

Be Picked up at the Akaroa main wharf by comfortable 4wd Mini bus and be taken up and over the stunning back roads of Banks Peninsula out to Pohatu - a working sheep farm, penguin colony and marine reserve all in one.

This small group tour offers amazing photo opportunities at scenic lookouts and commentary as you go about the unique history, ecology and geology of the area. Guides point out native species and share with you the conservation efforts protecting them.

Once in Pohatu you are welcomed onto a beautiful working sheep farm where you can meet the friendly pet sheep for a true Kiwi experience. A short walk and talk around the farm takes you through little penguin nesting habitats. In season the nesting sites are monitored and you can see up close the conservation project in action. Your guide will share with you all about how Canterbury’s White Flippered Penguins live and how the farmers have managed to protect them.

Last stop is a walk to the beach - Pohatu Marine Reserve, where your guide will point out other native marine bird species and if lucky lazy NZ fur seals may be present.

This tour takes 2 hours and helps fund the Pohatu penguin conservation project.
